Kline's DFL opponent, Steve Sarvi, said Kline's only focus seems to be on increased drilling, when oil companies are not drilling on federal land where they already have leases.

While we've come to expect it of them, Rep. John Kline's supporters (some might call them paid consultants or even staff) are already up no good in the 2008 election -- including using tactics for which they've lambasted opponents in previous years.

Minnesota Republican John Kline is taking on both the Lobster Institute and the Montana Sheep Institute, not to mention olive fruit fly research in France.

“If John Kline thinks safe roads and bridges in Minnesota are equivalent to ‘olive fruit fly research in Paris,’ then he’d better talk to Minnesotans whose lives are being affected, sometimes tragically, by our crumbling infrastructure,” said Sarvi spokeswoman Bridget Cusick.

When CQ Politics rated the congressional races last fall, we said: “the Democrats are in a strong position to expand their congressional majorities” in the 2008 elections.

It’s gotten even better for them since then.

WASHINGTON -- Former city administrator and Iraq war veteran Steve Sarvi said Monday he raised $145,889 in the second quarter in his bid to unseat 2nd Congressional District Rep. John Kline, R-Lakeville, who continued to show a big cash lead.

On July 7, Rep. John Kline conducted an energy tour to which only select media were invited. The tour was designed to show that John Kline is working for his constituents on energy solutions -- but as the Sarvi campaign has pointed out, Kline's record in Congress tells quite a different story.
